Drug Uses
Viramune is used for treatment of HIV infection. It must be used in combination with other HIV medicines. If Viramune is taken alone to treat HIV infection, it may stop working.

How Taken
Use Viramune as directed by your doctor. Take Viramune on an empty stomach or with a meal. Taking Viramune at the same time(s) each day will help you to remember to take it. Continue to use Viramune even if you feel well.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the Missed Dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you stop taking Viramune for more than 7 days, contact your doctor before you begin taking it again.

More Information
If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Viramune should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Storage
Store Viramune at 77 °F (25 °C). Brief storage at 59 – 86 °F (15 – 30 °C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Furosemide out of the reach of children.

Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Viramune, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances, if you are allergic to any ingredient in Viramune, if you have kidney or liver problems, swelling of the abdomen, joint pain, an eye infection, fluid retention in the face, fatigue, a high CD4 count, fever, muscle pain, general body discomfort, mouth sores, or skin sores or rash, or you are on dialysis, if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Viramune during pregnancy. Viramune is excreted in breast milk. HIV–infected mothers should not breast–feed their infants because of the risk of transmitting the HIV infection or Viramune to the baby. Some medicines may interact with Viramune. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Do not take Viramune if you have hepatitis or you are taking ketoconazole or St. John's wort. HIV can quickly become resistant to Viramune when used alone, due to this Viramune must be used with at least 1 other HIV medicine. Your doctor may change your treatment plan if Viramune stops working well. Do not exceed the recommended dose of this medicine without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended dose of Viramune may not provide additional benefits, and may increase the risk of side effects. Viramune does not cure for HIV infection and patients may continue to acquire illnesses/infections associated with HIV. Remain under the care of your health care provider. When your medicine supply begins to run low, get more from your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. This virus may develop resistance to Viramune if you stop taking it, even for a short period of time, or the virus may become more difficult to treat. Viramune does not protect from the transmission of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood contamination. Use barrier forms of contraception (eg, condoms) if you are infected with HIV. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking Viramune (eg, increased fat in the upper back and stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms and legs). Caution is advised when using Viramune in children because they may be more sensitive its effects. Viramune may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pills. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control (eg, condoms).

Possible Side Effects
Some of the Possible Side Effects are- Breast enlargement, diarrhea, excessive fat accumulation in the face and around the neck, headache, shift in body fat to stomach and upper body, skin and facial wasting. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately- allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), blistering or peeling skin, change in the amount of urine, dark urine, fever, loss of appetite, mouth sores, muscle or joint aches or discomfort, nausea, pale or clay–colored stools, redness, irritation, or discharge of the eye, sore throat, stomach pain, swelling (including swelling of the face), unusual fatigue or tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
