Drug Uses

Drug Uses
Ortho Tri–Cyclen contains a combination of estrogen and progestin hormones, which is used for preventing pregnancy. It may also be used for regulation of the menstrual cycle, for treatment of symptoms of menopause, or treatment of other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How Taken
Ortho Tri–Cyclen comes in tablets to take orally. Then take one pill a day, the time interval between pills should not be more than 24 hours. It is advised to take the pills at the same time every day (e.g. before bed, with a meal, or first thing in the morning). If you take your pills at night, this can reduce nausea or headache that you may experience while taking birth control pills. Avoid missing pills or starting the pack late. The more pills are missed the higher the risk to get pregnant. You may have spotting, light bleeding or you may feel sick to your stomach during the first 13 packs of pills. You should not stop taking pills if you feel sick. This side effect usually goes away. If it stays for long, you should consult your doctor. If you find it difficult remembering to take the pill at the right time, you should discuss with your doctor the use of another birth control method.

Missed Dose
If you miss one pill, take the forgotten pill as soon as you remember. The next pill should be taken at a regular schedule–this might mean taking two pills in one day. It is advised to use a backup method of contraception for the next 7 days after a pill is missed. If you miss more than 1 dose of Ortho Tri–Cyclen, contact your doctor for further instructions. You may need to use an extra form of birth control (eg, condoms). If you are not sure about how to handle Missed Doses of Ortho Tri–Cyclen, use an extra form of birth control (eg, condoms) until you talk with your doctor.
